ONKOMETER BMT 923 to measure oncotic pressure
Measuring plasma oncotic pressure or plasma colloid osmotic pressure (COP) gives indications of high clinical significance. During heart surgeries and other medical applications, COP needs to be verified efficiently and with extreme precision. Indumed distributes the sophisticated ONKOMETER BMT 923 and offers technical support to simplify, optimize and futureproof your workflow.
What is plasma oncotic pressure?
Plasma oncotic pressure or plasma colloid osmotic pressure (COP) is the osmotic pressure generated by proteins (especially albumin) in human plasma. It is an important force which helps to balance the capillary transmural fluid exchange. The normal human plasma COP ranges between 20 and 25 mmHg. Inadequate or low COP-values can contribute to vascular volume loss and peripheral edema. Measuring and verifying the oncotic pressure (and its trend) is therefore vital in clinical practice. The plasma COP can be measured directly with a colloid or membrane osmometer.
BMT MESSTECHNIK GMBH: fast and accurate COP measurement
BMT MESSTECHNIK GMBH was founded in Berlin in the year 1975. Ever since then, the company has focused on developing and manufacturing electronic devices for heart and circulatory research, membrane osmometers for oncotic pressure measurement and UV photometers for ozone measurement. Over the years, BMT MESSTECHNIK GMBH has earned worldwide recognition for the production of highly innovative, premium-quality instruments for both scientific and industrial purposes.
In 1981, BMT MESSTECHNIK GMBH marketed the ONKOMETER BMT 921. This is a membrane osmometer to measure the plasma colloid osmotic pressure (COP), which received patents all around the globe. In 1995, the team developed the ONKOMETER BMT 923, an even more advanced membrane osmometer for usage during open heart surgery.
“The new ONKOMETER BMT 923 is unsurpassed in simplicity of both measurement and maintenance. Measurement takes less than two minutes and the device automatically holds the right steady-state value of the displayed COP. The ONKOMETER BMT 923 is sturdy and simple for use in clinical practice.”
